Diabetes, Every Number Counts: Your Health is Your Wealth

March 31, 2022 | Canada

Diabetes, a serious condition, is present in 10% of the Canadian population and is one of the top 5 chronic diseases in Canada. The prevalence of diabetes is also much higher in South Asian and Black adults. Good control of one’s glucose (blood sugar) level, that is, prevention of low and high sugar fluctuations is paramount to preventing complications such as heart attack, stroke, eye, kidney, foot and nerve disease. One additional potential complication of diabetes is hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, and its severity can range from mild symptoms to severe.

Why is it important to check sugars regularly? Why is a low sugar dangerous and what new technologies are available nowadays to ease the burden of “finger pokes”? And how can “Meaningful Movement”, as described in our Five To Thrive education resource on chronic disease prevention, assist in controlling our diabetes?

Join Alnoor Suleman, Pharmacist and Certified Diabetes Educator, Mona Kabani Registered Nurse and Certified Diabetes Educator, and Dr. Ally Prebtani, Professor of Medicine and Endocrinologist, for a candid conversation on the symptoms, signs and treatment of hypoglycemia, moving more, and what’s new in glucometers and glucose monitoring device technology.

We will also cover how to gain innovative information and trends from the newest glucose monitors.
