What if the participant is not the age specified for the camp, should we still apply?

Each camp offering is designed for a specific age group, based on their skills, abilities, and development. Therefore, if the participant is not of the eligible age, they will not be able to apply as a participant to camp.

How will age be verified?

A date of birth is required for your application to be valid, and proof of age can be requested at any point. If any participant is found to be in contravention of the age requirement for the respective camp, they will be asked to not participate.

Does your age policy coincide with school years?

The Camps Canada Age Policy has been designed to ensure participants are of the age that the camp has been designed for, is in-line with their academic grade and applicable for their current adolescent life-stage.

What is the admission policy?

Participation will be by application:

  1. Participant will apply to the camp they are interested in during the application period (February to March 2024)
  2. Admissions team will then deliberate and accordingly send out an admission offers (March to April 2024)
  3. Offer must be accepted, and payment collected to secure spot in the camp
How does the admissions team select which participants will receive admission offers?

As part of the participant selection process, guidelines have been set out to ensure that the program standards are maintained, including specific consideration for the best interest of the program.

If the number of applications exceeds the maximum, an ethical and equitable process will be undertaken when selecting participants. As a foundational criterion, candidates must be born in the correct years and/or be the correct minimum/maximum age for the camp they have applied for.

Applicants will be considered for selection based on the following criteria:

  • Age – older years will have priority to attend the program since they will not have an opportunity the following year
  • Waitlist status – applicants who have previously applied to the program and were unsuccessful will have priority
  • Gender – having a balanced number of females and males and other genders
  • Diversity – ensuring representation from across the diverse array of segments, ethnic and otherwise
  • First-time participants – priority will be given to those who have not attended the camp applied for in the past
  • Institutional commitment – recommendations from relevant Jamati institutions based on a specific youth’s circumstance

Requesting financial assistance does not affect admission into the camp.

Once the above criteria are taken into consideration, the remainder of the participants will be selected based first-come-first-served.

Once the selection is made, the remainder of the applicants will be placed on a waitlist. If spots open, they will be contacted.

Can I attend a camp more than once?

Participants may attend Camp Discovery and Camp Mosaic more than once. However, priority will be given to those who have not attended the camp applied for in the past.

Camp Arabesque and Al-Ummah Canada provide a transformational experience for our youth. Therefore, participants may only attend once as a participant.

In a given year, a participant may only attend 1 camp offering (i.e. cannot attend Camp Mosaic and Camp Arabesque in the same summer).

Is transportation available for Camp Discovery?

Transportation is available to Brossard Jamatkhana from Laval and Montreal Headquarters Jamatkhana.

Transportation is otherwise not available for Camp Discovery.

Is transportation available for Camp Mosaic?

Transportation will be available from a central site (i.e., Jamatkhana) to the campsite. Details will be communicated closer camp start.

How will travel to Al-Ummah be organized? Is the cost of flights included in the cost for Al-Ummah?

After being accepted to the program, the Al-Ummah Canada team will connect parents and participants with our travel agents to aid in purchasing flights/ferry tickets. The cost of flights is in addition to the cost of Al-Ummah Canada.

Is food provided?

All meals and snacks are provided for Camp Mosaic and Al-Ummah Canada.

For Camp Discovery and Camp Arabesque, participants are requested to bring a packed lunch. Snacks will be provided.

Are camps nut-free?

All camps are completely nut-free. This includes food provided by Camps Canada and food that is brought to camp by participants.

How will medical conditions and dietary allergies be handled at overnight camps?

The participant or participant’s parent will ensure all medications needed will be brought to camp. Medications will be kept in a secure location under the care of health and wellness staff. When medication is needed to be taken, it will be self-administered. Emergency medication such as inhalers and epi pens will be kept on the participant.

Any new medical concerns will be looked at by the health and wellness staff and escalation to a hospital/clinic will occur when deemed necessary. The parent/guardian will be informed.

Dietary allergies will be accommodated for where possible. When filling out the participant application, please state the participant’s dietary allergies.
