Al-Ummah Canada | Counsellor - Job Description
Program Description:
Counsellors will help develop and implement various aspects of the program, geared towards reinforcing the ethics and values of the Shia Ismaili Muslim faith. They will ensure that national strategies are articulated and achieved, resulting in a high-quality program that not only facilitates experiential learning, but also promotes the mission and objectives of the Al-Ummah Canada summer program.
Job Specifications:
- Minimum age requirement: 21 years of age
- Experience working within a team, independently and meeting deadlines
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Superior communication skills, including group facilitation and presentation skills
- Valid First Aid & CPR Certification
Performance Requirements:
The incumbent will be required to perform the following duties and tasks:
Pre-Program Responsibilities
- Assist with the coordination and implementation of regional marketing initiatives
- Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, conference calls and training sessions
- Become familiar with the Staff Package and additional materials prior to the session
- Prepare and submit designated activity research and lesson plans as required
On-site Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all staff and participants during the session
- Facilitate workshops, tariqah modules, sports, morning, afternoon and evening activities
- Develop relationships with all participants, while role-modelling professional, acceptable behaviour
- Supervising participant behaviour to ensure it remains within the accepted guidelines
- Ensure that safety precautions are exercised throughout the session
- Attend daily staff meetings, to discuss and share any necessary updates and information
- Document and report all incidents of concern to the Program Director
Additional Responsibilities
- Report to the Senior Staff Team on a regular, on-going basis
- Adhere to the Staff Contract, Code of Conduct and all supplementary policies
- Ensure the confidentiality of all staff and participant information
- Submit a Staff Evaluation after the program, detailing recommendations for future sessions
- Assist with other tasks and projects as required
Time Commitment:
The position will involve occasional work prior to the program, including conference calls and lesson plans. Counsellors are required to be onsite for the duration of the program and training week.
Compensation:
An honorarium will be granted for all work and services rendered. Travel expenses to Vancouver Island, B.C. as well as all meals and accommodations will be provided during the program.
