Camp Arabesque

Camp Arabesque is a 5-day day camp with an overnight component and field trip for ages 13-14.

Hosted in Jamatkhana, the program brings together the spirit of adventure, reflection, and innovative thinking to create communities where diversity is cherished, and pluralism is embraced. As a hands-on, explorative camp, Camp Arabesque will provide participants with opportunities to embrace their curiosity as they observe communities around them, and design creative solutions to build spaces where cultural and religious difference is understood, respected, and celebrated. Through a series of field trips, engaging activities, and meeting and learning from experts in the field, participants will envision and create communities that promote the true spirit of pluralism in the 21st century.

This year, Camp Arabesque has two themes:

  • Architecture and the Built Environment
  • Climate Change

Camp Arabesque aims to:

  • Enable participants to reflect on the role that the built environment and our climate plays in promoting cultural literacy, expression of identity, and the spirit of pluralism
  • Provide participants with the necessary knowledge of the concepts of pluralism, cultural and religious literacy
  • Inspire participants to learn about and engage with different cultures to strengthen their relationships with the communities they are part of
  • Promote the deepening of knowledge in the field of art and science through the creation of a community model
  • Foster a sense of belonging and responsibility as ambassadors of Islam to celebrate diversity and build towards a pluralistic society
