Taslim Samji is a visual artist, community activist, and spoken word poet. Over the years she has worked with local galleries and organizations to insert Muslim artists within Vancouver’s wider arts community. With Islamophobia and Xenophobia on the rise, she realized the voices of female Muslim artists could be used as a powerful tool to educated communities.
In 2017 she received an international award from the Women Economic Forum - Women of the Decade in Arts & Leadership. She serves on the Burnaby Art Gallery Advisory Committee and the City of Burnaby Public Art Committee, and has previously servled as Vice Chair for the Arts & Culture Portfolio on the Ismaili Council for British Columbia. She is currently writing a novel that examines how cultural conditioning supports gender equality - stay tuned!
