Women's Heart Health: A Journey Across the Lifespan
Heart disease is the leading cause of early death for women in Canada. New research has revealed that heart disease and stroke affect younger and middle-aged women in addition to older women. Heart disease is a leading cause of illness and/or death for women during pregnancy or after childbirth.
Women may also experience different symptoms of a heart attack when compared to men. While traditional risk factors such as diabetes and high blood pressure continue to play a significant role, particularly for women of Central and South Asian descent, emerging non-traditional risk factors for heart disease have become more prevalent. These include psychosocial stress, depression, breast cancer treatment, and inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis.
We invite everyone, of all ages, to join this candid conversation about heart and brain health across a woman’s lifespan. Dr. Shahin Jaffer (Internal Medicine Specialist and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia) and Dr. Thais Coutinho (Chief of the Division of Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation, as well as Chair of the Canadian Women's Heart Health Centre at the Ottawa Heart Institute) come together in this informative webinar to discuss heart health.
