Artists in Conversation - Mohamed Assani with Aliyah Amarshi
CHAI Showcase presents "Artists in Conversation", an in-depth discussion series with accomplished Ismaili Muslim artists.
This week, join Mohamed Assani and Aliyah Amarshi as they discuss Mohamed's inspiring artistic journey across three continents, exploring different genres of music, and how the ethos of pluralism manifests in his work. Mohamed takes us back to the historical roots of sitar music, pay musical tribute to Amir Khusrao, and reflect on the global and cultural influences that have shaped music for centuries. In this talk, Mohamed offers sage advice to artists pursing their career, and shares his experiences through historical performances such as creating a sitar concerto with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, at Hazar Imam's 80th birthday celebrations, and at the performance of the Nasheed in Aiglemont.
Mohamed also offers a live sitar performance of recognizable tunes, as he teaches us to hear the similarities and differences across various types of music.
