Funeral Ceremony
In the Islamic perspective, life is considered an amanah or an endowment of trusteeship. The physical existence is limited in time and, for each and every individual, will come to an end. As Allah says in the Holy Qur’an: “For every nation there is an appointed span of time; when their time arrives, they can neither delay it nor bring it forward, even by an instant.” (7:34).
Despite the certainty of this knowledge, death is nonetheless accompanied with an acute sense of loss and grief. The various rites and practices that are part of the funeral process, not only aid the journey of the soul of the deceased, but also provide comfort, meaning, solace and closure to the family and friends of the deceased.
