Dealing with Grief During These Changing and Challenging Times
Society is changing, and communities are coping with lifestyle modifications in a variety of ways. Every aspect of our lives has changed, including the practice of faith or facing the challenge of coping with the passing of our loved ones.
In this session, Alwaez Karim Dewji will discuss what grief is, the various stages of grief, as well as the psychological and social aspects experienced by the bereaved. He will explore faith-based perspectives of life and death, and suggest possible coping mechanisms in the current environment. He will also identify available resources, both within our community and through external sources.
This session will be delivered in a mix of Gujarati, Kutchi, and English.

Alwaez Karim Dewji is originally from Dar-es Salaam, Tanzania. He is an accountant by profession and works for the Ministry of Finance.
Alwaez Karim graduated from the Waezeen Teachers Training Program in 1985, and then from the IIS International Waezeen Training Program in 2010. He has travelled nationally and internationally to deliver waezes and seminars.
Alwaez Karim has been the Vice Chair of the Bereavement Program with the Social Welfare Board, a member of the National Waezeen Committee, and Scholar Convenor for ITREB Ontario. He has held positions on various committees/portfolios, including adult education, and Bait-ul Ilm.
