The Concept of Prayer in Rumi’s Masnawi

May 26, 2020 | Canada

A glimpse of Rumi’s ideas on prayer based on Masnawi.  He believes that the relationship between God and mankind is of a reciprocal nature. Rumi considers recourse to prayer to be God's commandment.  For him, the human instinct to pray is a form of divine mercy, a manifestation of God's grace itself. He particularly emphasizes the need for prayer in times of distress and hardship. Rumi concludes that both the prayer and the answer to prayer are from God.
