The Skyview Early Learning Village offers a safe and nurturing environment for young learners, while enriching their physical, social, emotional, creative and intellectual development. It recognizes the role that every member of our village plays in shaping the values and attitudes of our future global citizens. The programming recognizes that the early years are the most critical for a child’s growth and development. Young children learn best in the context of appropriate sensory inputs as well as stable and supportive relationships and interactions. The early years also build the foundations for thinking, language and behavioral attitudes.

Learning Environment

A strong, active, and energetic early childhood culture is fostered. The safe and organized learning spaces are designed to provide an enriching environment for young learners that includes:

  • A rich array of engaging materials that support social interactions as well as builds autonomy and initiative in children.
  • Materials that are thoughtfully designed and selected to reflect the linguistic and cultural heritage of the children and their families.
  • Promotion of literacy, numeracy, and foundational skills necessary for future school success.
  • Equipment to support active development through physical play and interaction.

Curriculum

Skyview Early Learning Village follows Flight, Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Curriculum Framework, which guides the practice of educators working with children and their families. Children’s play is central to the curriculum framework. It is an active, exploratory, creative, expressive process, embedded in the child’s everyday experiences through which they will participate in, learn about and actively make sense of the world.

The curriculum is also enriched by on-site intergenerational programming. This unique offering allows children to positively interact with the residents of Generations, Calgary. While benefiting both the young and the aged, it enhances family values, promotes appreciation for cultural and linguistic heritage, fosters empathy, brings joy, and nurtures a feeling of belonging in all ages under one roof.
