Jamatkhana Etiquette During the COVID-19 Pandemic

April 12, 2021 | Prairies

The safety of the Jamat is everyone’s utmost concern. When we attend Jamatkhana, there is an obligation on every one of us to keep one another safe. We need to work together to protect each other, and prevent community spread of COVID-19.

If you come to Jamatkhana, we humbly request your cooperation on the following precautions:

  1. Maintain physical distance of at least 2 meters from anyone outside your household at all times while in and outside of Jamatkhana.
  2. If you are sick, please stay home. Get tested and follow the mandatory isolation public health orders. Going against these laws and recommendations will put the Jamat at risk and impact our ability to stay open.
  3. Stay home if you or a household member have been exposed or have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
  4. Wash or sanitize your hands effectively and frequently.
  5. Before entering Jamatkhana, all murids age 2 years and older are required to wear a properly fitted face covering. The mask should be made of at least 3 layers and should cover your nose and mouth completely. Keep it on all times including inside the building, the prayer hall and in the parking lot. Please note face shields or clear plastic face masks, duppatas or scarves, are not permitted as a substitute to masks.
  6. If you or a loved one experience symptoms of COVID-19 or test positive for the virus, please promptly consult your physician, and inform us by calling the ACCESS line.
  7. The COVID-19 Vaccination program by each province continues, with a phased approach focusing on priority populations. Please visit https://www.alberta.ca/covid19-vaccine.aspx for eligibility and how to book.
